Will God Do It Or Do I Have a Part To Play?

acts

“God will do it.” I hear this statement every now and then. This statement gets me excited at times but as well upset! There are situations where after all has been said and done, nothing else humanly possible can fix a problem. All that can be done is to hope for a miraculous intervention. I am sure you have had at least one of such experiences. I have. Not once, and I can attest to it that it was solely God’s handwork—simply unexplainable. On such situations, when “God will do it” is said, I totally get that.

On the contrary, there are situations I believe the statement is an excuse for us to be lazy. After an attempt or may be two at trying to solve an issue, we give up and conclude by saying “God will do it.” Or perhaps, we are given a task, but because we are daunted by its difficulty, we lose heart and say, “God will do it.” “I have tried studying for thirty minutes for this hard exam, but God will do it.” “I am currently unemployed. I went in search of a job last year, but God will do it.” “The promotion at work requires a lot of work. I don’t think I can get it but God will do it.” To be candid, I believe it is an excuse to be mediocre. Dear friend, God did not create you to live average or less. You were created for more. You were created to be a world changer. Yes, you read right; a world changer—to bring healing to a hurting world. I love this scripture from Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” Paul, in his letter to the people of Colossae further explains why working wholeheartedly is essential, in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.” When we work and do so wholeheartedly, I believe it is an act of respect and reverence to God. What do I mean by that? I believe the quality of our work is a reflection of who we are. Accordingly, we are reflections of God, since we were created after his image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27). So each time we put in our best effort, whatever it is, we represent how God would do it, and you can bet God gives his best! My advice? Get to work, research, and put in your best. Truth is, your best may not be really ‘the best,’ but God will crown your efforts. He will put the finishing touches you need to excel. Do your best part and God will do the rest.

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men. Colossians 3:23.
