What Should I Do? Help! I’m Uncertain

Uncertain

One thing that cripples us from achieving greatness in our spheres of influence is uncertainty. Uncertainty is not entirely a bad thing in itself, however it is what we choose to do in the state of uncertainty that matters. For example, we have a great idea that we believe would be revolutionary when it becomes a reality but because we are not sure about how or what to do with it, we throw it down the drain and forget about it. The result is that ideas that would have changed the world and made it a better place are neglected.

I believe that if everyone was certain about everything, then life would be meaningless. There would not have been that ‘adventure’ or ‘not knowing what tomorrow brings.’ Everything would have been predictable and hence passionless. Uncertainty thus ‘keeps us on our toes’ and enables us eagerly continue our quest in life’s journey. However, as a result of our perception of uncertainty, the tool that should help us press harder and move forward, most times hinders us from advancing. The fear of uncertainty stunts our growth from becoming giants in our areas of vocation. I have heard some people say that they would have loved to start a project or business but because they are unsure about how to start and whether it would be successful, they won’t bother trying. I want to suggest that instead of seeing impossibility as a result of uncertainty, how about seeing the other side-possibility. If you can think “What if it does not work?” how about thinking “What if it does work?” Change your perspective. I really like and find strength in what the Apostle, Paul, in 1 Corinthians 2:3-5 says I was unsure of how to go about this, and felt totally inadequate—I was scared to death, if you want the truth of it—and so nothing I said could have impressed you or anyone else. But the Message came through anyway. God’s Spirit and God’s power did it, which made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God’s power, not to some fancy mental or emotional footwork by me or anyone else.

Paul had never been an evangelist or missionary in his life, but after an encounter with Jesus Christ that would change his life forever, he discovered his vocation. Not knowing how he was to go about it, he started anyway. The result of this audacious move was that he was the greatest evangelist of new testament bible times. Perhaps, you reading this post could be the greatest inventor or greatest scientist or greatest lawyer of our time if you step out of the mould of fear of uncertainty. So from today, kindly note that you have all it takes to be the best in your area of vocation. Just step out in faith and allow God to do the rest for you. Paul attested to God’s guidance when he stepped out and overcame his fear. He said God’s Spirit and God’s power did it. God never changes; He is the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow. If His Spirit and power did it for Paul, He will do it for you too.
