A Heart For Others 4

Hi there! This is the fourth part of our series A Heart For Others. If you want to catch up, you can read the previous 3 parts ( click Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) in eight minutes or less each (one of the reasons for this blog :))

Do you know that your heart grows bigger when you reach out to others?

Some people confuse pity and compassion. They are not the same. Pity is the feeling of sadness caused by the sufferings or misfortunes of others, while Compassion is that feeling of sadness caused by the sufferings or misfortunes of others but backed with action towards amelioration. In other words, Compassion is pity but with a tangible desire towards solving the problem. We go on about how there are problems everywhere and for once, do not consider how we can actually be of help. “Oh I wish I could do this or do that,” we say.

Just do it! Do something!

Start practicing compassion in the small things

You might not be able to feed an orphanage of kids but you can start by providing lunch for one disadvantaged child. You might not be able to stop any form of prejudice, but you can start by lending your voice in your locality. You might not solve all problems of the world, but you can start from somewhere. Someone once said, a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Ask yourself one question, how can I be of help? You might not have all the resources, but you can contribute the little that you can. An ocean starts with a drop of water.

There are some things money cannot buy but bring the greatest rewards, deposited in our hearts.

Psalm 112:9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
